Congratulations! You are about to embark on an incredible journey to meet your little one(s)! As your doula, I am with you and your partner to help guide you and your family in your preparations to meet your baby, helping you to be able to make decisions and advocate for yourself and the type of birth experience you want. My goal is to help you achieve YOUR goals, hopes, and wishes in your pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum time with the evidence-based information I provide to you.

Our prenatal meetings build on a trusting relationship. We'll have 1-3 prenatal visits, talk about your hopes and goals for your pregnancy and birth, and learn about the birth process, (cont.)

A doula (pronounced DooLa) is a 'trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the birthing person and their partner during pregnancy, labor, and childbirth to help you achieve the healthiest, most satisfying birth experience possible' (DONA). (cont.)
Studies have repeatedly shown that when a doula is present, labor is easier and shorter, less interventions, decreased use of medications, a decrease in cesarean births, and the parent'(s) bonding with baby is enhanced, and increased satisfaction with their partner. and overall satisfaction with the birth.
I am a trained birth doula with DONA International starting in 1995 with women in high-risk pregnancies as part of a hospital-based volunteer program here in the Twin Cities. I then worked with the HCMC doula program from its inception in 1998 to 2006. I've had the privilege of attending almost 700 births, serving immigrant women, women who were homeless, (cont.)
I believe that anyone that desires to have a doula should have one. If finances are of concern or have other extenuating situations, please let me know and we can discuss how I am best able to help you. I will also barter for services, ie meal prep, fresh veggies from your garden, or walking my dog. Make me an offer!
