Post-Partum Support

Black African American woman with baby in air

Baby is home.  Now what???

Now is the time that you and baby are learning about each other. It can be challenging at times. Up until the middle of the last century, families lived nearby and everyone knew their neighbors. Help was available to you in those 1st weeks and even months.

I can further help you and your baby by providing additional post-partum doula services in-person, by phone, email, or virtual support.  All extra services are available 24/7 with a 3-hour minimum.

Post-Partum Doula Services:

  • newborn care guidance
  • breast/chest feeding
  • bottle feeding and formula recommendations
  • taking care of baby while you shower, nap, sleep
  • household organization
  • light housework
  • sibling care
  • grocery shopping (no fee for this period of time as I will do my own at same time!)
  • typed birth story (notes taken as time allows)

We'll also discuss your physical recovery and emotional health:

  • helping with self-care
  • how you are adjusting to this transition
  • discuss your birth experience
  • referrals to local resources for continued support in the 4th trimester

If there are feeding concerns beyond what I can help with, I can refer you to a Lactation Counselor or Lactation Consultant.

  • Lactation Counselors help educate new mothers and families about breast/chest feeding, assist with establishing milk supply, offer guidance on optimal breastfeeding positions, and tips on latching, and can also instruct the proper way to use a breast pump.
  • Lactation Consultants do much of the same as above but also specialize in more advanced clinical knowledge about the various complications that can arise during the breastfeeding journey: clogged ducts, engorgement, tongue ties, and other more advanced issues.
